Worms

Why do you slither through the dirt

while it’s raining?

Worms live in darkness.

They are not thrilling, just hardworking.

Why don’t you have feathers to fly?

Smooth and slimy, through

the hook on a fishing rod, used as bait.

Little teeth bite through the organic material.

Why do you slither through the dirt

while it’s raining?

The softness of your body

is fierce to my finger.

If the sun dries you up,

your innocence is gone forever.
