Where Are You From?

Where are you from

I am from the the times she didn’t have it

From the missing handles on the car door

The years we live with my aunt

The beatings that left me in tears

I am from the sad walk from Holy Cross

Where are you from

I am from the laughter with them

From the countless movie nights

From the times I slept with her

The moments where I was mad at her

I am from the love she gave me

Where are you from

I am from all the call homes

From the years below grade level

From the books I wished I read

I am from the teachers who cared

Where are you from

I am from the fields of Marlow Heights

The slippery courts of Seat Pleasant

The cold days of Fort Washington

I am from the 15 years of life
