From a country of parades, rivers and beaches

I’m from the people who helped build the canal

I’m from baseball players and boxers

I’m from people who sell bolis and empanadas

 

I’m from the tias who watch telenovelas

I’m from the uncle who downloaded El Reina del Sur

I’m from the cousin who wants to be on Caso Cerrado

 

I’m from the family who does over the top quinces

I’m from the family who made all my birthdays the best

I’m from the family that loves cooking

 

I’m from the family with heart disease

I’m from the family with sickle cell traits

I’m from the family with arthritis in its joints

 

I’m from the mom who provides for her three daughters

I’m from the mom who gives her daughters the world and more

 

I’m from the grandma who used to make like 30 cupcakes a day
